Church Training Grant

The Church Training Grant supports churches in providing a structured, hands-on training year for individuals exploring a call to pastoral ministry. It is designed for those who have not yet begun formal theological study and want to test and develop their calling in a local church setting.

This grant enables churches to offer a balanced programme of theological learning and practical ministry experience. Trainees are given opportunities to grow through preaching, leading meetings, pastoral visitation, and evangelism, alongside guided study under the supervision of the pastor. Regular mentoring and feedback are central to the training.

Funding of up to £6,000 is available for one year, helping churches cover the costs of supporting a trainee, including basic living provision. Churches are expected to demonstrate financial responsibility and provide a clear training and supervision plan.

Applicants must share a Particular Baptist theological basis and show strong leadership, accountability, and safeguarding practices. Each application is carefully assessed, with visits or interviews forming part of the decision-making process.

This grant aims to help churches identify and nurture future pastors by providing a valuable opportunity to test, train, and grow in gospel ministry.

Conditions:

1. Grants support one year of structured ministerial training before formal theological study.

2. The Applicant and trainee must meet the Fund's theological requirements.

3. The Applicant must provide suitable accommodation (where required), living expenses and a structured programme of theological study, ministry experience and pastoral supervision.

4. Applications must include the information listed above together with independently examined or audited accounts prepared in accordance with current legal requirements.

5. Applicants must demonstrate appropriate safeguarding policies and practices. Non-adherence to the safeguarding policy or the occurrence of a serious safeguarding incident will normally result in the grant ceasing immediately.

6. Applications must include two ministerial references, one of which should normally be from the relevant Area Minister or Association Secretary where appropriate.

7. The maximum grant is £6,000 for one year.

8. Applications for more than one trainee may be considered where adequate supervision can be demonstrated.
